Hello, first of all I want to TANK YOU for maintaining this widget alive. I LOVE it and would be horrified if it would die. :o) My question is: is it possible to modify something for the widget to display the day, date and forecast days in french? I'm asking this becaus the reference page for the weather info the widget is linked with is in french, but the displayed info are in english. Best regards and thank you very very much. Pierre

Thank you! I’ll take a look at this. I guess it should be possible. :)

Yahoo! Widgets discontinues - widescapeWeather keeps on

Yahoo! will be discontinuing the Widget engine by April 10th, 2012. Read their full information here.

But: I am planning to keep widescapeWeather alive. The widget has its own version check - independent of Yahoo’s. So I am optimistic that the widget will continue its service and you’ll still get updates.

Location and 3rd Forecast Day Missing (Fixed)

Currently there is an issue with Weather Underground’s data feed. Yesterday they implemented a new 10 day forecast feature and it seems, this release broke the 3 day forecast that the widescapeWeather widget uses.

This also leads to a disappearing location.

I already contacted them about it and hope the issue will be solved shortly.

Update: And it’s fixed!

LOVE widescapeWeather but am having issues. At first, the widget would never open back up after restarting the computer or logging out/in. Now I can't get it to open at all. I have reinstalled the Yahoo Widget application as well as the widescape widget. Looking at activity monitor, it looks like I get a crash report soon after trying to open the widget, but I don't know enough for it to be useful to me.

Update: There is no proper solution for this yet. But - strangely - randomly deinstalling Yahoo! Widgtes and the widescapeWeather widget and deleting the preference files of both seems to solve this problem for some people.

For futher assistance contact me at info (at) widescape.net

What’s new in version 2.2?

It’s out! Yahoo! hasn’t approved the widget yet. But nonetheless you can download it here!

Update: You can now download the widget from Yahoo! or here (from my server).

There’s great new stuff!

  • Weather data is now kindly provided by the great folks at Weather Underground (http://www.wunderground.com/weather/api/)!
  • Clicking the weather icons now brings you to the full forecast at wunderground.com. This also means you need to hold down the CTRL key on your keyboard while dragging the widget (hold down CMD key on a Mac).
  • The forecast tray can now also be opened up and down!
  • The time no longer shows the last update time. Instead you can now choose between the current time of the selected location or your computer’s time.
  • Time now may also display seconds.
  • You can now display the current date (incl. different date formats).
  • The widget has now prebuilt themes (you can still customize everything).
  • The forecast tooltip now shows expected condition, high/low temperatures and the chance of precipitation of each day.
  • The text opacity can be changed again.

Download the new version:

It’s done and uploaded! I just uploaded the final widget to Yahoo! It is now waiting for their approval. They say they’re approving twice a week, but on the same page they also say GeoCities is “a reliable Web hosting service”. So let’s see what that really means.
Update: Yahoo! approved the widget and you can download it from their site!
For those of you who do not wish to wait for Yahoo! to approve the widgete want the widget directly, here’s your download: Download widescapeWeather 2.2
Here’s a list of the new features.

3 good news of the day:
I’m done implementing Wunderground’s dead simple API!
I’ve closed the deal with them. They’re great folks!
And, there’s only one more thing to build into the widget: A version check for automatic notifications for future updates. So you’ll never have to check Yahoo’s website again to see if there’s a new version of the widget.
And there will be future versions: Like new icons for special weather conditions with improved graphics (while still being sleek and clear, trust me). Or additional customizations to let you choose what weather info from Wunderground’s exhaustive feed you want to have in the tooltip (like dewpoint, sunrise/sunset, humidity etc.).

Update: I’m currently implementing the new weather data feed.
This means adjusting icons to new condition codes, implementing the new location search and adapting the weather information in the tooltips to the provided data.
Above is a screenshot of my work in progress.
